Shawn Cook
Owner & Wealth Advisor
Shawn has dedicated his life to helping others. He began is career in higher education at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. There he worked on staff in student development, fund raising, and as an adjunct business professor. Shawn was also the co-founder of the nonprofit business, Feed the Need, serving the underprivileged areas of Lakeland through donations and outreach events. He then transitioned into the wealth management field working with an independent group within Raymond James as a Wealth Advisor. There he honed his craft for building comprehensive financial plans and investment portfolios.
All of these experiences led him to start Advocate Wealth Management with the dedicated purpose to change the lives of his clients and partners by making the business about genuinely helping other people. His main responsibilities are creating comprehensive financial plans, building investment portfolios, and overseeing the growth and integrity of the business.
When Shawn isn't working on the business or in the business, he spends most of his time with his wife Martha and their two children Atlas and Haven. He also enjoys sports of all kinds, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends. Shawn currently serves on the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce Board. He also serves on the Family Counseling Service Board in Aurora, IL and assists with the finance committee.
Martha Cook
Operations Manager
Martha Cook is the Operations Manager at Advocate Wealth Management, where she is responsible for managing day to day activities regarding client servicing, organizational processes, and coordinating assistance to employees including regularly scheduled training and compliance updates. She thrives on improving the quality, productivity, and efficiency of the work flow and office environment.
Martha completed her Masters in Human Services from Southeastern University. While completing her degree she interned at the People’s Resource Center in Wheaton assisting in their financial services program for those in need of short term funds. Martha then began her career in Client Services within the financial industry. She started as a Private Client Associate with Raymond James becoming familiar with the wealth management field and then ventured over to the banking industry as a Commercial Relationship Administrator at First Eagle Bank assisting with loan processing before joining Advocate Wealth Management.
Martha is a native of Florida and one of eight children. She enjoys being with her family, baking, organizing, drawing/painting, traveling, and quality time with friends. She makes a modest blueberry pie, and would love to own and run a bed and breakfast one day.
